Our First PILOT PROGRAM: PUERTO RICO
Our first educational pilot program featured college participants interested in entrepreneurship, legislative policy, economic development and technology. Our first class featured a tailored educational adventure beginning at the Governor's mansion, a a seminar Homeland Security's Forensic Center, a day of volunteering at a DODEA school, planting coco trees along the coast to prevent beach erosion and the development of a vegetable gardens for a retirement community without access to a supermarket.
Participating students returned to campus with an unsurpassed cultural awareness of issues affecting the only natural-born, Hispanic American island community. Our adventure travel and community service experience empowered the students to become Cultural Ambassadors of Puerto Rico in their college campuses and professional settings. Island Corps Alumni answered the call to serve.
